What Now!?

Ok, what now?

Jesus' birthday is over, you've eaten too much and exercised too little...what do you do now?

You know you want to get rid of the "extra" that you put on over the last seven weeks, you know that golf season is around the corner and will be here quicker than you can swing a club at, you know that you need direction for the change you want to begin, but you just don't know what to do!

I am here to tell you that "it's ok."

According to research, most people are feeling the same way the day after Christmas, so it's not just you!

First things first.

Since 1/1/09 is a week away, get started on your 2009 "Life Change Plan." That's right, your "Life Change Plan," NOT new years resolutions!

If you want change you need to speak in "change" language! Forget the soft talk that will only make you forget about the serious changes you wanted to inact around the beginning of the year, and all of the sudden it's Valentines day; and you have done nothing to take steps toward the successful accomplishments of your goals.

What is the "LIfe Change Plan?"
Simple...
  1. It's a list of particular areas of your life that you want to permanently change.
  2. It's your Life
  3. It's your Change(s)
  4. It's your Plan
  5. This is your road map and plan to implement them so the changes become your new reality- not the same ol, same ol.
  6. It's your way (and others if you share) to hold yourself accountable.
  7. It is a commitment. Period.

This is what I recommend,

  1. Make a list of the things you want to change- all of them, in as much detail as possible.
  2. Break them out into "categories." A couple of my categories are family, personal and spiritual.
  3. Create a commitment to self statement like I listed in a few blogs earlier. Once completed, make copies and put them in places of high traffic like the bathroom, office, car, etc., so you can constantly reinforce your vision.
  4. Share it, with those who will support you and encourage you.
  5. DO NOT let anyone push you off your direction...NEVER!
  6. Keep seeing yourself already as attained your goal. For example- see yourself skinnier, wealthier, healthier, wiser, or whatever it is.
  7. Live #6
  8. Be grateful about everything no matter what! Stop whining! We are the most blessed people in the world, so keep things in perspective!
  9. If you believe in it, pray about your changes, give it to God.
  10. Now go do it!

PLEASE, PLEASE commit to change for yourself, it's just you and your all you got...not to mention, you deserve it. :)

Have you seen these selfish people out and about?

Man, the way people are driving, fighting for spaces at the mall, and otherwise not paying attention is really getting to me!

It makes me realize how selfish people are and how much they don't care about their fellow humans!

Me, Me, Me! That's what I can hear people saying!

Any trust me, I am guilty of it to, but sheesh, it is Christmas time- NOT, "HOW MUCH CRAP CAN I BUY AND FOOD CAN I EAT AND EXCUSES CAN I MAKE," TIME!

You want to know the problem...
The lack of connection to exactly why we have Christmas. It is a celebration of Christ's birth...PERIOD!

If these people would have that thought constantly on their mind, then the "holidays" would be much more enjoyable for all!

Soooo, all you selfish people out there (who probably aren't reading this anyway, but oh well!:)) get over yourself and stop thinking so much about yourself!

After all, that's what new years resolutions are for!

Merry Christmas all!

"Longevity with Vitality"

Give yourself the gift of fitness!

No slacking allowed!

Ask yourself this question..."why do I slack?"

Now take that answer and apply it to all other areas of your life!

How's that feel?

I know for me, that stung a little bit! But you know what, sometimes in order to be clear with ourselves, we have to be real first!

"So," you ask, "what does this have to do with golf fitness or health in general?"

Easy! I say!

If you slack on your fitness goals, your eating goals, your business goals, or any other area...then you will defiately slack when it comes to taking care of YOU!

So this holiday and new year, commit to yourself that you are not going to slack! Afterall, you have to much at stake, whether it is your family, kids, boy or girl friend, job or whatever...there are people and loved ones counting on you to be around for a long time!

So give yourself the gift of "longevity with vitality" by not giving up on your fitness and health, NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES! :)

Get after it and screw the naysayers!

How bad do you want to improve your game? Or lower your handicap? Or beat your friends? Or win state in high school? Or win your club championship? Or get on tour?

Huh? Seriously.

How bad?

How about losing 10 pounds, 20,30,100?

Regardless or who you are or where you are, how bad do you want to achieve your goal(s)?

Take heart in these quotes...print 'em out and live by them...

"When you're willing to do whatever it takes, you're ready to receive whatever you want."
First you need to get there, in order to get THERE!

"It's better to be alone than in the company of dream destroyers and saboteurs."
DO NOT let others be "dream stealers!" There are alot of your friends and family who don't want you to succeed, simply because you might be taking steps forward in a direction they know they need to move toward, but because you're doing it first, will elicit a jealousy response that will come out in a way that will build themselves up...and break you down!

Again, I don't care what your goals are, golf fitness or not, but in the end...you are worth every ounce of the attainment of you goal(s), SO GO FOR IT AND LEAVE ALL NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND PEOPLE BEHIND! And when you get there, turn around and help those who wanted you to fail, help them to succeed at their dreams and goals!

God Bless people! Now get after it!

COME ON, stay with it!

Remember my challenge to you below?

Did you copy and paste the "contract to self" about over eating and under exercising this holiday season?

If not, then here it is again!

Copy and paste this "Contract to Self" below...

"I _________________ promise to myself that I will make wise choices when it comes to eating and exercising this holiday season. I choose to maintain my present weight and fitness because I am commited to my fitness and health goals that are important to me. I refuse to start 2009 with new years resolutions that start with, "I want to lose the 5-10 pounds that I gained during the holidays!" I WILL NOT DO THIS TO MYSELF BECAUSE I HAVE SELF CONTROL AND A DESIRE TO BE FIT AND LOOK GOOD THAT OUT WEIGHS MY DESIRE TO TEMPORARILY GRATIFY MYSELF BY OVEREATING AND UNDEREXERCISING!"

SOOOOO, come on, do it!
Start 2009 a different way this year...without an extra 5-10 pounds!

Oh, and golfers...do you think an extra 5-10 pounds would effect your swing?
Answer-- YES it will!

Now get after it; eating well and exercising!

All you have is your health, and family!

I've said this before, regardless if you play golf or not, in these times we are all struggling.

I think it is a blessing in disquise actually. Why you ask?

Easy...we as a people have gotten so focused on pursuing the "unimportant and temporary" that we have lost focus on what is really important...health and family.

Now the family is sort of one of those, "duh" type of statments, but health and fitness aren't!

During the hard times it gives us a chance to get our focus back on what counts, and money (although important and desired!) can't create a great life if we don't have the health/fitness to enjoy it!

Ask anyone who is in a wheelchair if they'd rather be a millionaire or have the ability to fully use their body again, I bet you most of the time they would choose the regaining of normal body function.

My point is, as we all become more fiscally wise, I challenge you not to stop going to the gym; exercising; playing golf; eating organic food; skiing, or whatever else you like to do in life!

Stay strong, be healthy and, you know what, "enjoy the ride," it won't last that long and by the time it is over, you'll not only have your health and fitness, but you'll have more money again as well!

Swing Fault- "Loss of Posture"

“Loss of Posture”
64.3% lose their body angles
35.68% maintain their body angles

Defined-
Loss of posture is any significant alteration from your body’s original set up angles during your golf swing. This loss of posture can affect all aspects of the golf swing including timing, balance and rhythm. Losing spine angle or altering posture usually causes two miss-hits, a block to the right or a hook to the left. As the body angles change, the player is put in a position to have to rely on their hand action to square the face. This becomes a timing-driven swing that can be inconsistent.

Causes-
1.
Stiffness of joints in lower body- Hips, low back complex, SI joints, knees, ankle
2. Flexibility in hips and shoulders- in order to rotate around a stable posture, one must have good flexibility in the hips and shoulders. This allows you to get the club into key positions without altering your spine angle.
3. Inability to separate upper and lower body- and visa versa allows the player to maintain a stable posture and a proper sequence of motion during the swing. Limited trunk to pelvis separation is usually caused by reduced spinal mobility and shortened lat flexibility.
4. Inability to stabilize trunk- abs/glutes- the ability to stabilize the lower body is
directly proportional to gluteal and abdominal strength. A stable neutral pelvic posture
helps prevent thrusting toward the ball.
Other non-physical causes-
1. Incorrect swing path on back and downswing
2. Swing tempo and rhythm
3. Improperly fit clubs

If you have any of the swing faults in this series listed here on my blog, contact me for solutions to permanently change your game forever!

Swing Fault- "Early Extension"

This is one of the most common swing faults (of the twelve) that can have a negative impact on your game!

“Early Extension”
64.3% of amateur players came off line
31.07% of amateur players stayed on the line
4.51% of amateur players sat deep into the line

Defined-
When the hips and spine start into hip extension or straighten up to early in the downswing, it is termed Early Extension. This is where the hips and pelvis move closer to the ball on downswing. This causes the upper body to lift up in order to maintain their balance. The lower body does not easily rotate through impact, instead in pushes forward into the space where the club is supposed to go, forcing the player to stand up.

Causes-
1. Stiffness of joints in lower body
- Hips, low back complex, sacro-iliac joints, knees, ankles
2. Can’t rotate around lead hip (internal rotation)- if the pelvis is unable to rotate around the lead hip due to joint or muscular restrictions then forward and lateral movements will dominate the pattern.
3. Inability to separate upper and lower body- and visa versa allows the player to maintain a stable posture and a proper sequence of motion during the swing. Limited trunk to pelvis separation is usually caused by reduced spinal mobility and shortened lat flexibility.
4. Inability to stabilize trunk- abs/glutes- the ability to stabilize the lower body is directly proportional to gluteal and abdominal strength. A stable neutral pelvic posture helps prevent thrusting toward the ball.

Non-body causes-
1. Clubs to long
2. Player is too far from ball
3. Player has too much weight on their heels at address
4. Player has poor swing path
5. Other posture faults

Remember, the ONLY way to fix swing faults is to correct them in the gym! Till you address your physical issues, you will never live up to your potential as a golfer!

You know what else "tis the season?"

ANSWER- "Training for the 2009 golf season!"

Now is the time to be training for next years season!

It is also the time to be combining your golf fitness program with regular instruction!

Why do you think my PGA players are spending a good amount of their "off season" doing just those two things? That's right! They are PREPARING for their season.

YOU need to be doing the same thing.

Why is it so acceptable that golfers think it is ok to be sucky for 80% of the entire playing season, only to maybe get a little better come fall?

It really is stupid!

So get going for gosh sakes! Wouldn't it be nice to actually step foot onto the golf course for the first time come March and play well!

It'd be so fun to kick your buddies booties all over the course, cause all you did was properly prepare...not to mention the fact that you will decrease pain and injury; hit it further; be more accurate and take more of your friends money!

Earth to golfers- GOLF IS AN ATHLETIC SPORT!

Stop being so lazy!

The Kings' Birthday :)

Ahhh, Tis the season!

This is one of my favorite times of year!

Definately NOT because of shopping, gifts, holiday stress, parties, grumpy people, or bah-humbugs!

But because of family, colorful lights, Christmas trees, my kids excitement, cold nights, fires, Christmas music, and the spirit of giving.

But most of all, for me, is the understanding of what Christmas is all about. That is the birth of Christ- celebrating His birthday- and being thankful that in the USA we can celebrate freely, happily, and with pride!

Enjoy the season my friends...just don't over-eat and skip your fitness and golf-fitness conditioning programs!

2 DAYS...Will you overeat?

Kind of a silly question isn't it???

But really, will you?

My question to you is, WHY?

WHY make yourself feel completely uncomfortable?
WHY make yourself have "room clearing gas?"
WHY give yourself a complex because you ate so much, and now you feel like "a cow?"
WHY begin the 'holiday cycle' of weight gain?
WHY make bad choices from now until new years and then turn around and create a new years resolution to get rid of the weight you put on over the holidays cause you didn't ask yourself WHY?

Like I said a few posts ago..."STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!"

Make a decision right NOW to not over eat this thanksgiving and holiday season in general!!!
Make a pact with yourself right NOW to stay fit and NOT gain any weight!

Seriously, DO IT NOW!
SIT DOWN, and right out a contract with yourself and make copies and put it all over the places in your home and work that will remind you to "stand true to your own word to yourself!"

Don't give in, Don't give up, and certainly Don't let yourself down for food!

Thanks Colorado PGA!

On Monday, I was invited (along with my TPI instructing partner Ron Gring) to speak to the Colorado PGA.

These 38 men and women that attended learned about how the body can influence and create swing faults amoung other topics.

I salute them!

And you should too!

You need to ask your golf instructor if he or she believes in the importance of golf fitness as it relates to the game.

If they deny or put off the importance of golf fitness, then I suggest you see an instuctor who does!

Valued readers, the golfing industry is going to a "team concept." It's not just about equipment, instruction and "hit-a-lot-of-balls" anymore...it's about the instructor who is the driver, and his pit crew who contain a fitness professional, a medical professional, a mental professional, a nutrition professional, and an equipment professional.

This combination is what willl not just make solid and outstanding golfers, but will also create better athletes, and afterall, better athletes make better golfers!

So in the end, seek out those who are qualified and believe in the team concept, if you don't you will be left behind!

To win or not to win?

So do you play to win or not to win?

If your answer is to win, why do you think you can?

Have you properly prepared up to the point of playing or competing?

Have you set your mind to it and know you will because your properly prepared?

How do you feel, then, when you don't win, but loose badly?

That's right, you feel bad! Then you go back thru your mind and try to figure out where it was that you messed up that led to your loss.

My question to you is, "did you go back far enough?"

Most people only review to themselves the activity itself, and leave out the preparation time leading up to the playing or competition.

So back to my original question, "did you properly prepare?"

I'll bet your answer is no.

You see this blog doesn't have to do with golf, but any other challenge you may face in life...ie., a presentation, a job interview, or a promotion. The above conversation applies to all aspects of life!

BUT, if we bring it back to golf, it really applies!

You see, if you want to play good golf and play good golf for a long time, you have to be properly prepared.

That includes, golf fitness, proper nutrition, good equipment, good instruction, and a good mental game.

Just like in golf, all other aspects of life will improve with a constant and consistent program of fitness! So if you don't have a fitness program in place, then for life's sake, get one!

After all golf fitness is life fitness!

GOT BACK PAIN? It's NOT your back sometimes!

Looking after you!

Here is a recent newsletter from my collegue Isabel De Los Rios and The Diet Solution. ENJOY!

"I can't believe how many times people have said to me "Oh, I can't do those exercises. I have a bad back." Yeah, you and nearly half a million people around the globe. Chances are you or someone you know has said once or twice "Ah, my aching back."
What many people may not know about me is during my 11 years of personal training, I became a bit of a back specialist. I didn't really pick this specialty on purpose, it just happened "by accident." You see, my clients would come with the purpose of losing weight and getting into better shape, but would somehow relieve their bad backs in the process.
Was it the exercise? The stretching? Their new sense of health and well being? Maybe, but I would strongly argue that their change in diet had more to do with it than any of those other combined.
Oh boy Isabel. That's a bit of a stretch isn't it?
Now, hear me out on this..
Medical professionals are now starting to realize the direct correlation between chronic internal inflammation in the body and conditions such as arthritis, back pain and fibromyalgia. Internal inflammation is a lot like external inflammation but you can't see it so it is not as obvious to us. When you sprain your ankle, your body's natural response is to signal pain (so you won't keep moving and cause more damage) and will also cause inflammation in the injured area (again, so you'll just lie on the couch and chill out). It will also direct fresh blood, antibodies, and vital cells to the area to aid in the healing process. This sounds all fine and dandy but when your body creates inflammation and pain signals in your lower back, sometimes debilitating you for the day, it is not so fine and dandy anymore. You've been there right?
I have had plenty of people look at me like I was crazy when I tried to tell them that if they just eliminated "inflammatory foods" from their meal plans, a lot of the pain would go away. Especially medical professionals who have been so accustomed to just prescribing surgery or pain medications to alleviate bad backs. But I have seen it happen right before my eyes time and time again. People eliminate inflammatory foods like wheat, dairy and sugar, and voilà
...Back pain gone in a few weeks.
I was reading this article by Steve Hefferon, from the Healthy Back Institute, and I love how he gives a detailed chart on exactly which foods to eat and which foods to avoid to control internal inflammation. As a result, controlling inflammation will help to alleviate back pain. He also goes into some other great "lifestyle" tips that are absolutely necessary, not only for pain control, but healthy weight loss as well.
The Healthy Back Institute's "Lose The Back Pain" system is the only program I recommend for back pain sufferers. Their system for assessing and analyzing the cause of your back pain is so precise, I have even recommended it to non-back pain sufferers for preventative purposes.
If you are currently struggling to follow your exercise program because of nagging back pain, this is the perfect place to start. Find out if the "Lose The Back Pain" system is exactly what you have been looking for to alleviate back pain and get started on a great workout program today
You'll want to investigate the "Lose The Back Pain" system for yourself if you value ridding yourself of back pain. Do this from the same site immediately after you print out the chart of foods and lifestyle tips I mentioned above at this link:
Inflamation Foods by Lose the Back Pain"

P.S. - Stay tuned for tomorrow's Special Recipe Newsletter, where I share the delicious dinner I made last night in 20 minutes! It was yummy! (and anti-inflammatory, of course)

Got goals? Be S.M.A.R.T

How ya doing at listing and achieving your goals?

Do you have a plan for your family, your business, and golf?

How about your fitness goals?

What?

You don't have any?

Oh...no wonder you aren't getting your body to where you want it!

Man the truth hurts sometimes eh?

Ok...so here is an easy way to try to get this problem under control, and your fitness/health goals going in the right direction with success to follow. This comes from the book, "The Milliionaire Workout," by Ryan Lee:

SMART:
  1. Specific- Be as detailed and specific as you can with your goals. Instead of saying, "I want to be fit," you can say, "I want to lose 12 pounds of body fat in 12 months by working our for a least 12 minutes a day, 5 days a week."
  2. Measurable- You must be able to measure your results. For example, insteaad of saying, " I want to be rich," your goal can be stated as, " I want to be free of debt and have $500,000 in my bank account within 35 months."
  3. Attainable- Is your goals within your grach? Wanting to become a millionaire might be an attainable goal for you, but is it attainable within the time fram you've allotted?
  4. Relevant- Is your goal relevant towards your life purpose? Think lon and hard about what you feel you've on this earth for to do. Does your goal bring your lcoser or farther away from your purpose?

Hard to be healthy!

"It's so easy to be overweight and unhealthy."

That's what a golf fitness bootcamp participant said just five minutes ago!

And I said, "yes it is, everything in society today is going to the opposite! It's easy to be lazy instead of being diligent; it's easy to give up instead of trudging forward toward a goal; it's easy not to stick to your moral compass; it's easy to say, "I'll try it just this one time;" it's easy to choose the unhealthy choice and not the best choice to eat for lunch...it's just easy to be "unfaithful" to yourself!

Seriously people! When are we going to stand up for what is right in our life? Stand up for what is important in our life? Stand up for what our dreams are and pursue them? Stand up against laziness, Stand up against disease, obesity, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, perpetuating a new generation of obese, lazy kids?

The answer- it starts with you, each and everyone of YOU! One at a time, right now! "Change" isn't just a word that is overused in this election cycle, change means to take an immediate step in the direction that you want to go, not just sitting around expecting everyone around you to change while you don't!

So yes, it is easy to be lazy and be like the rest of society, it's hard to be diligent, and therefore hard to be healthy!

Which do you choose? I choose diligence!

Golf Fitness is Life Fitness!

I am here in Anaheim at the World Golf Fitness Summit, where there are over 300 TPI certified professionals aspiring to learn more and help change the golf industry's way of thinking about the game and how it should be played.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the consensus is in...and if you play golf and don't train for it, you WILL get injured and your game WILL suffer and possibly end forever!

How do you feel about that?!

Just remember, your golf fitness program that is created by myself or another TPI certified professional, will not only benefit your game, but your life as well!

We train you to be better athletes and a more functionally sound human being, not just a better golfer! When you can move better, stabilize better, and express strenght and power better, that is when you begin to understand how your Golf Fitness is Life Fitness!

Blessings!

I'm sorry, but this mess was bound to happen. When a society becomes totally "self" involved with the obsession with "how much I can get" in life, then a mess like we are in is bound to happen.

I say it is a blessing.

Yep.

This is "our shake up," "our wake up," what ever you want to call it...it's got everyone's attention.

Now, will this shake up shake people into being grateful for the things they have, ie., God, family, friends, loved ones, health...you know, the ones the REALLY count when nothing else is left.

As much as I am saddened by the losses of many, I pray that everyone is able to do at least "a gut check" of their own and count their blessings, cause in the end, that's all we have.

How was your season?

Well...

How was it?

Did you improve? Did you lower your handicap and get it where you wanted to?
Were you consistent? How about pain, did your summer golf season include bouts of pain?
And most importantly...did you have fun playing everytime you went out?

Now I am going to guess that a high majority of you would answered the above questions like this; no, no, no, yes and no.

Am I right?

If I am, then you need to work on your fitness! Fitness will improve all of those issues and more!
If you don't think so, why is it that everyone of my golfing clients can answer those questions with; yes, yes, yes, no and yes?

A few examples-
John T- "have reduced my handicap by 7 this summer"
Sean W- "am hitting my irons at least 15 yards further on all clubs"
Cody K (a high school player)- "have won two tournaments this year"
John R- "was able to play 92 times this year, and I am 62!"
Audie D- "I got into my first Senior PGA Championship!"

So when it comes to golf fitness, remember, not only will your golf game improve like those above, but every other aspect of your life will improve as well, like...stamina, less stress, flexibility, stablity, coordination, balance, and happiness!

It's almost the off season, so start thinking about getting your body and game in shape and ready to perform at all aspects of life!

Eat your vegies dammit!

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... All before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We're such slow learners... Nature left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of the human body! Nature's Pharmacy! Amazing!

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopene and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neocortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocados, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female — they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents ccervicalervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Add these great vegies to an organic peice of meat and you have a superior meal before or after you play or go your golf fitness program!

Your health is all you've got.

So our economy is a little screwy right now...so what!

Now, please understand I have a great amount of empathy for those who have lost money and security that they have worked all their lives to create.

What I mean is, in the end, even without a nice home, cars, computers, and otherwise luxurious items that we Americans get to live with...all we have is our health.

So I encourage you to keep pressing on to being as healthy as you can, not just for yourself, but for your family in particular!

NEVER stop making health and fitness a priority, especially in times of hardship! Remember, it is in highly stressfull situations that we open ourselves to disease! In fact, studies show that if you exercise and eat well during times of excessive stress, you can fight the stress response that the body goes through during those hard times!

So regardless what is going on around your life, fall back into yourself and take care of your life by taking care of the only body God blessed you with!

Roctober!

That's right!

October is almost here and that means it's time to start thinking about winter sports and conditioning for the 2009 golf season!

Do you realize that your golf fitness and conditioning that you participate in in summer will translate well to your winter fun activities!

How?

Well...let me count the ways...using skiing and snow boarding as examples...
  1. They demand a great amount of core stability
  2. They require mobility in the ankles, hips and thoracic spine
  3. They require stability in the knees, core, and thorax
  4. They demand a keen sense of balance and coordination
  5. They require "what's happening now" type of concentration, but "what's going to happen soon" type of concentration as well
  6. Both use an external source of equipment that impose outside forces on the body that must be controlled
  7. They both require the ability to squat, bend and rotate well
  8. and they all require sunscreen! :)

So even though we are all sad to see the season go away for the most part here in Colorado, just remember that your golf fitness will not only get you into the winter season more quickly, but your winter season activities will also help you get back into your golf game come spring time!

So take advantage of the services I have to offer to help you perform at all the sports you love year-round...MAT therapy, trigger point therapy, nutrition coaching, golf fitness bootcamps, performance bootcamps, supplement programs, home and commercial gym consultation, industry leading one on one conditioning programs, and an overall desire to help you be your best!

Elimination Diet, dump the poison!

Are you a crystal clear stream or a stagnant little pond?

Got the visual?

Here are the differences...
-a stagnant pond is one that hasn't seen any water movement for a long time, so the water gets that pretty little "rainbow" effect on top of the water, and that slimy mold begins to grow on the side of the pond, nasty little bugs begin to lay eggs, and in general these little ponds are just gross!
-on the other hand, a bustling stream is a delightful site with cyrstal clear water running over perfectly shaped stones of various colors that seem as if they were doing their own little dance. It is a place where the water is clean, moves without hinderance and supplies life and vitality to all who drink of it...

So which one is the inside of your body?

This is the difference between living a life of commercial food and things like over the counter and prescription drugs (the typical american), versus those who make food and water choices that are the way nature created them in the first place...organic, clean and not messed with!

So here is a solution to begin to take your body from a stagnant pond to a beautiful flowing stream...

Go to http://www.dailydoseofdax.blogspot.com and sign up for his news letter. Everyday for 30 days you will recieve ways on how become a "new stream" of flowing crystal clear water!

Dax is very respected in the UK and I know his information works!

Here's to cleaning up our "water" one person at a time!

Don't believe it! There is not one way to swing a club!

That's right! There is not one way to swing a club!

It's impossible.

Although we humans look similar and are built the same, we don't move or produce movement the same. So how is it that those in the industry continue to tell you that there is only one way to swing a club?

Let's use snow as an example...we all know that a field of snow looks pretty. We also know that that field of snow is comprised of trillions and trillions of individual snowflakes. Right?

So let's use the same analogy for humans...at a football game, we all know that all those people look the same as a group, as "a field." But we also, know that there might be 50,000 fans who are comprising that group and every single fan looks different, acts different and moves different. Right?

So here's the deal. You know that I am always after finding the faults in the way each of you move, so that we can go about the process of using stretching, exercise and nutrtion to make you a more "effecient' mover.

Well, I fully believe in Tilteist Performance Institute's swing philosophy, that perfectly explains it all!
"We don't believe there is one way to swing a golf club, we believe there are an infinite number of ways to swing a club, but we do believe that there is one effecient way for all golfers to swing a club, and it's based on what they can physically do."

That's it!

The only hard part is that it takes a 3D motion capture system to determine if you are effecient or not. I am working diligently to try to get a 3D motion capture system at CGF. Until then, keep training hard and don't get or stay stuck in the thought that there is only one way to swing a club, cause it is impossible!

Going for the Gold!

Watch the olympics. Period.

What you see is the culmination of lifetimes of blood sweat, tears, pain, sacrifice, and pride of country.

What you see is dedication and commitment coming to a conclusion.

What you see is a drive to accomplish a goal that has been set years and years ago.

For some, it's been since they were a little kid.

Use this time to study these great athletes and see what you can take from them. Few will win, most will lose, but the honor, commitment, dedication, blood, sweat, tears, pain, sacrifice and pride of country is there, by all the athletes "going for the gold."

How are you doing with the pursuit of your goals? What is your gold medal? Why not continue to go after it,?Cause in the end, it's not someone else who can take it away from you like in the olympics, it's usually your worst competitor who does....you.

GO USA!

You are what you eat!

Something to think about...

If our nation's soil was virgin - which it is not;
If our ancestors had been perfect - and they were not;
If you could teach people to eat to satisfy the body's needs and not their perverted appetites - which you cannot;
If we could raise our own food on healthy soil and eat it fresh - which we cannot;
If we could all own our own cow, goat or chickens and raise our own meat and poultry - which we cannot;
If foods were not harvested green and immature - but they are;
If storage did not produce deficiencies in vitamins - but it does;
If we lived in a stress-free world - but we don't;
If chemical fertilizers were not used in our soil - but they are;
If refinement, processing, enrichment and synthetic substitution were not a reality-but they are;
If the animals we eat were fed a perfect diet - which they are not;
If insecticides did not penetrate every cell of our food - but they do;
If the animals were not force-fed and hormone-fed to increase their weight and make an earlier market day -which they are;
If most of our grains were not refined into dried cereals - which they are;
If our white sugar possessed anything more nutritive than sand which it does not;
If our modern white flour was all used for wallpaper paste instead of bakery goods - which it is not;
If our foods were not overcooked - but they are;
If deep fry fats were not to be found in almost every restaurant but they are;
If man would live by the laws of nature - which he will not;
If man were not greedy - but he is;
Then you wouldn't need supplements!

The answer? Do your homework...

Are you a student of health or disease?

As my family and I enjoyed a few nice days in Estes Park this weekend, I was disappointed to see a strong representation of the "state of our populus."

"What is that," you say?

Last week we, Colorado, were rated the number one state for the lease amount of overweight and obese americans.
What I saw in Estes Park was more of the average american who represented the "state of our populus," which...
  • As of last week, 25% of Americans are now obese, which doesn't include the 40% who are considered "over weight." That's 65% of our population being overweght.
  • Showed the continual increase in percentage of adolescents age 12-19 years who are overweight: 17, and the continual increase in percentage of children age 6-11 years who are overweight: 19!

When is this going to stop? When are people going to be awakened to the fact that they are quickly killing themselves and their children?

People we need to stand up for health and fitness and it starts with you!

YOU need to teach your kids how to make good food choices; YOU need to teach them how to exercise and how to value fitness; YOU need to teach them the importance of making responsible decisions in times when it is easy to make poor ones; YOU need to get over yourself and begin to think about how important it is to be a good role model so you can guarantee your childrens' and grand childrens' health for all generations to come!

After all, your kids health is more important than anything else you can teach them, PERIOD!

Without good health, your child cannot fully develop from a child to an adult; without good health your kids will not develop to their full mental and emotional abilities; without good health your kids will not be able to fight disease; and they will especially not be able to function at the fast pace that this world expects them to be able to! Should I continue?

In the end, this is a call to YOU. A call to get over your laziness about taking care of yourself. A call to stop making excuses as to how you think that you don't have the time each day to take care of yourself. A call to you, one person at a time and one family at a time, to begin the process of changing the numbers I presented above!

Let's become a different number than those statistics that state how many Americans will get cancer, heart disease or diabetes this year. Let's become part of an increasing number of those who are 'teachers" of good health instead of students of disease.

Perspective- Where's yours?

Are you stressed? LIfe isn't just about fitness, golf, health etc!
Try a bowl of persepective for a little "inner health!" DT

No matter what your political convictions are this is an eye opener.
What a thankless people we are!!!

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see....

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark 'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President.
In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?''
A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?
F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?
G. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.
H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.
J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.
K. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equippedwith a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.
L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
M.. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?
Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U. S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.
I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating, besides a democtatic congress with 9% rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?
The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?
Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take A look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it...... are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it.
The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig. So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?
Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?
The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations.
They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O. J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way...... Insane!
Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as country.
There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.' 'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

Jay Leno

Please keep this in circulation. There are so many people who need to read this and grasp the truth of it all.
What Is a Veteran? A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
