October is almost here and that means it's time to start thinking about winter sports and conditioning for the 2009 golf season!
Do you realize that your golf fitness and conditioning that you participate in in summer will translate well to your winter fun activities!
How?
Well...let me count the ways...using skiing and snow boarding as examples...
- They demand a great amount of core stability
- They require mobility in the ankles, hips and thoracic spine
- They require stability in the knees, core, and thorax
- They demand a keen sense of balance and coordination
- They require "what's happening now" type of concentration, but "what's going to happen soon" type of concentration as well
- Both use an external source of equipment that impose outside forces on the body that must be controlled
- They both require the ability to squat, bend and rotate well
- and they all require sunscreen! :)
So even though we are all sad to see the season go away for the most part here in Colorado, just remember that your golf fitness will not only get you into the winter season more quickly, but your winter season activities will also help you get back into your golf game come spring time!
